Do you have motion sickness? Do you wonder if there is anything you can ride with motion sickness? Or better yet, what attractions should you avoid if you have motion sickness? Today I would like to talk about the top rides that definitely aggravate motion sickness.
Disneyland Attractions to Avoid with Motion Sickness
Growing up and visiting Disneyland, I never had an issue with motion sickness. My Dad did…
As I got older I inherited that lovely nauseating feeling. Attractions at Disneyland that I used to ride all the time when I was younger suddenly made me sick to my stomach! So disappointing.
Thankfully, I am able to take Dramamine and it works for me. During our last trip, I found out the hard way that I needed to start taking it the day before I begin the motion activities.
Today I would like to give you a list of attractions to avoid if you have motion sickness. Starting with the worst offenders.
Star Tours
First and foremost is Star Tours in Tomorrowland. I have always enjoyed this attraction (except when I was affected by the motion). This attraction is a motion simulator ride. In addition to all the motion, it is also a 3D video that requires 3D glasses. If you are sensitive to wearing those, it can also aggravate your symptoms as well as add a headache to the mix.
King Arthurs Carrousel
This is a lovely attraction with history! But it is history if motion sickness is involved. I can’t even watch this attraction running in Fantasyland without it causing nausea.
Mad Tea Party
Alice in Wonderland themed teacups that spin, while the entire attraction is spinning as well. While it is fun to ride, and I love the theming (especially at night with the lanterns), unfortunately, the tummy is not as fond of this attraction.
Astro Orbitor
Next on the list is the space rocket themed Astro Orbitor in Tomorrowland. This attraction goes in a circle over and over while you can raise your rocket high in the air or keep it lower towards the ground. Either place affects the motion sickness. You may want to sit this one out.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
Another attraction in Fantasyland you may want to avoid is Dumbo the Flying Elephant. In the same way that Astro Orbitor goes in a circle and up and down, Dumbo does the same thing. Only this time you are riding Dumbo instead of a rocket.
Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin
In Mickey’s Toontown is an attraction called Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin. It is a Dark ride that also spins along the way as you ride in Benny the Cab through Toontown. This attraction is based on the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. (PG) While you may be ok if you don’t spin the attraction with the wheel, it could, however, spin some on its own. It could be risky.
Less Risky Attractions
Ironically, these next attractions have a motion sickness warning, but I do not have an issue with them. However, I am sure there are some out there that are more sensitive than I am to the motions. Therefore, I will list them here for you to make a decision based on your own reaction.
Indiana Jones Adventure
First, is Indiana Jones Adventure in Adventureland. This attraction is a motion-simulated dark ride. There are fast jerky starts and stops, fast curves left and right. If these types of motions cause you issues, you may want to sit this one out.
Splash Mountain
Over in Critter Country is Splash Mountain. This attraction is a log ride with curves and up and down hills that may cause motion sickness.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Next up is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. This attraction is a roller coaster ride with sharp turns and sudden drops.
Matterhorn Bobsleds
Another roller coaster on the list is Matterhorn Bobsleds. This Fantasyland attraction also has sharp turns and sudden drops. Likewise, it is a very jerky ride.
Autopia
Autopia in Tomorrowland is a car that kids can drive along a track. I am guessing you can have motion sickness due to your child being behind the wheel. Autopia can be jerky, depending on the skill level of who is driving.
Space Mountain
Finally, in Tomorrowland is Space Mountain. Another roller coaster ride in Disneyland that has sharp curves and sudden drops. This attraction is also in the dark. Use caution if you have motion sickness.
Final Thoughts/Tips
I want to mention here, although if you have motion sickness you will already know these, there are a few things to keep in mind on some of the transportation attractions.
For some of the rides like Mark Twain, Monorail, Disneyland Railroad and the Trams, you will want to try and face forward. Going backward can trigger motion sickness.
Another tip is to not read while in motion. Set the map down, phone, etc. and wait until you are stopped to look at them.
In Conclusion
I hope that this list of Disneyland Attractions to Avoid with Motion Sickness helps you out during your next trip or your first trip to the park! I hope that you do not have motion sickness. However, if you do I hope you have something you can do to help it or if not then avoid these attractions listed here.
