Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is a lot of fun when you are visiting the Disneyland Resort. This land is built after the animated Disney movies. There are lots of things to see and do in Fantasyland. For example, check out the designs of the buildings, inside and out, ride one of the many fun attractions, enjoy the many food options, and more!

Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland

Fantasyland is one of nine lands inside of Disneyland. It is the only land in the park with a castle. Based on the fantasy of the animated Disney movies, this land transports you into a Bavarian village that houses the many stories of beloved characters. For example, Peter Pan, Snow White, Aurora, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Alice, and many more!

Building Designs Past and Present

First on the list of discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is the designs of the buildings. Originally the Fantasyland buildings were designed to look like a Renaissance village. A lot like the one in the movie Sleeping Beauty. However, in 1983, Fantasyland was renovated to resemble a Bavarian village.

Even though the ride buildings look like one long building that is connected to the castle, each section has it’s own unique design. From Peter Pan:

Snow White’s Scary Adventures:

and Pinocchio:

Once you enter the lines for these attractions, make sure to look up and down. There are a lot of fun designs to see. Including the carvings of the wood.

Shows

Next on the list for Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland are the shows. There are two of them in this land. Mickey and the Magical Map and Storytelling at Royal Theatre.

Mickey and the Magical Map is a wonderful stage show that shows Mickey attempting to finish painting an enchanted map by himself. As he starts to change things he encounters some fun characters, including, King Louie from The Jungle Book, Pocahontas, Mulan, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, and Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.

The second show in Fantasyland is Storytelling at Royal Theatre. Before you enter the castle on the left is a walkway that takes you to the Fantasy Faire area. This area used to be Carnation Gardens, however, a few years ago it was reimagined to Fantasy Faire. There is a pretty courtyard with a statue of Rapunzel and her tower, princess meet and greet area, and an open-air Medieval style tent with a stage. Here, is where two hosts, Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones tell their comical version of Beauty and the Beast and Tangled. Therefore, be prepared to laugh as they tell their version of “Happily Ever After”.

Dining Locations

Next on the list of Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is the food! After all those rides and shows, you are ready for a bite to eat!

Red Rose Taverne

First up is Red Rose Taverne. This dining location replaced Pinocchio’s Village Haus Restaurant. (It was supposedly temporary, but it is still there after all these years…) After you enter Fantasyland through the castle, stay towards the left side. At the end of the building follow the path to the left and you will see the entrance to Red Rose Taverne.

This dining location is casual fare with a bit of french added in. For breakfast, some of what they have are a breakfast burger, garden hash, breakfast platter, and even a Mickey Mouse pancake! For Lunch and Dinner, they have Beast’s Forbidden Pastrami Burger, Enchanted Cali-Flower Sandwich, cheeseburger, flatbread pizza, and more!

Also, don’t forget to try the Grey Stuff… it’s delicious!

Troubadour Tavern

Next on the list for Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is Troubadour Tavern. Just to the left of It’s a Small World is the Fantasyland Theatre and Troubadour Tavern! You can grab a bite to eat and sit and enjoy Mickey and the Magical Map.

Although this spot says that it serves snacks… It is true! However, with the size of these snacks, they can be considered a meal! Here is just some of what is offered at Troubadour Tavern:

  • Bratwurst Sausage in a garlic and herb brioche
  • Broccoli and Cheese stuffed baked potato
  • Barbeque Chicken stuffed Bake potato
  • BBQ Turkey Leg (A meal for 2 or more!)
  • Jumbo Pretzel (Can add cheese)
  • Olaf Frozen Lemonade Strawberry Bar
  • Nestle Dibs

Maurice’s Treats

Another place to get a snack, and this one is more on the snack side, are Maurice’s Treats. In the Fantasy Faire area where the storytelling show is, is this cart to get a snack. The most popular item here is the Cheddar Galic Bagel Twist. You can just get the bagel twist or you can add marinara to dip it in.

In addition to the cheddar garlic bagel twist, some other items you can get here is a sandwich, chocolate twists, gear-shaped churros, chocolate, cakes, and french toast donut holes.

Are you drooling yet? I am…

I wish I could get some of these today!

Edelweiss Snacks

Finally on the list of dining locations to check out while you are Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is Edelweiss Snacks. This dining location is on the backside of the Matterhorn Bobsleds. As you walk toward It’s a Small World, Edelweiss Snacks is on your right. Some of the food options here are a turkey leg, chimichanga, corn on the cob (buttered or chili lime), and various chip options.

In the section titled A Peaceful Place to Relax, I will share a nice place to enjoy these snacks!

Popcorn and Churro Stands

In addition to all of these dining locations mentioned above, there are also popcorn stands and churro stands all over Fantasyland. Therefore, food is not far away while you are Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland!

FYI-Each of these locations has drink options, as well as, food to eat. This is helpful, especially on warm days.

A Peaceful Place to Relax

Next on the list of Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland is a peaceful place to relax. Whether you purchased some food items at Edelweiss Snacks or not, this spot is great to visit and sit for a spell.

To the left of Edelweiss Snacks, is a path that takes you to a covered seating area surrounded by water. There are trees, bushes, and flowers to look at, in addition to the ducks! If you look carefully out the left side at the end of the covered area, you can see the clock tower of It’s a small world.

This location is one of my favorite places to sit and just relax for a bit. It is usually not crowded, consequently,  it is a nice break from the crowds and the noise of the park. Although, the covered area above you is actually the track to the Monorail. Just be aware that occasionally the Monorail will pass by from overhead.

Bathrooms

Finally, on the list of Discovering Fantasyland in Disneyland are the bathrooms. I have a post about Disneyland Bathrooms that you can check out if you like. Some are an attraction in of itself! Talk about Disney details, it didn’t stop with the bathrooms, that is for sure!

There are three bathrooms around Fantasyland. The first one is on the right side of Sleeping Beauty Castle next to the Matterhorn Bobsleds. As a result of it being so close to Alice in Wonderland, it is themed after the movie! The woman’s bathroom is the Queen of Hearts. Red hearts are on the walls and around the lights. The stall doors look like playing cards. This bathroom is definitely one to check out!

Next, is located next to Red Rose Taverne. It is on your right when you are looking at the entrance to the dining location. As a result of it being a smaller bathroom, sometimes there is a line. It used to be Pinocchio themed, however, it has been a while since I used that one so I do not know if it was rethemed when the restaurant changed.

Finally on the list of bathrooms in Fantasyland is located near Troubador Tavern and Mickey and the Magical Map. Just as you enter the path to the theatre, on the left are the bathrooms. Princesses and Princes. Unfortunately, there is not a lot to the theme here, but when you gotta go, now you know where. lol

In Conclusion

Fantasyland has so much to see and do while you visit! This is just some of what is to discover in this land. I hope that this post helps you out to plan your next visit to Fantasyland!
