10 More Disneyland Secrets

First of all, if you missed Disneyland Secrets Part 1, you can find it here.

Next, on to the next set of 10 more Disneyland Secrets!

10 More Disneyland Secrets

Visit Guest Relations to get a free button.

The first Disneyland secret is that you can get a free button. Sometimes Cast Members will hand them out to guests. Another way to get one is to visit Guest Relations at either Disneyland or California Adventure and ask for one. If you are celebrating something special let them know and they will write it on the button. For example, Birthday, Anniversary, or first visit, etc.

Don’t forget this one on your next trip! Buttons make a nice souvenir, (glue a magnet to the back and place on your fridge!) in addition to the special recognition you get from Cast Members during your visit when they see you are celebrating something special.

There is a time capsule in Disneyland.

Another Disneyland secret is that there is a Disneyland time capsule in, you guessed it, Disneyland! Back during the 40th Anniversary of Disneyland, they lowered a time capsule into the ground in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland. Next time you are at the park, see if you can find it. The time capsule has a plaque placed on top.

  • Fun Fact: The slogan for that Anniversary was “40 Years of Adventure”. It was also the year that Indiana Jones Adventure opened.

Feral cats roam all over the Disneyland Resort.

Have you ever seen a cat at Disneyland? I never had. For years! Until a few years ago, I finally saw one! There are actually quite a few feral cats that roam the Disneyland Resort. When Walt Disney was building Disneyland, he made a great effort to save all the cats that were roaming the property back then. A tradition that is still ongoing.

Can you imagine how great it would be to be able to roam the park and live there all the time?

There used to be three Autopia attractions running at the same time.

Did you know this Disneyland secret? Three Autopia attractions ran at the same time!

There was a Midget Autopia that was only for kids. No adults allowed! A Junior Autopia in Fantasyland and the Tomorrowland Autopia.

The Midget Autopia was closed in 1966 to make way for It’s a Small World. The other two Autopia’s remained open until 1999. At that time, both the attractions were closed for refurbishment and in addition to the tracks being replaced, they also combined the two to make one attraction.

Peter Pan and Snow White were missing from their attractions.

Next, when Disneyland first opened in 1955, Peter Pan’s Flight and Snow White’s Adventure did not have the main character’s inside of the attractions. These rides were designed to make you be that character as you rode through their story. However, after many complaints from guests and while Fantasyland was closed in early 80’s for a complete makeover, Disney Imagineers decided to add Peter Pan and Snow White into their attractions.

Disneyland used to have designs printed on their napkins.

This next secret on the list of Disneyland secrets is one I wish they would bring back. Not that I need to save any more Disney napkins…

However, they made a nice FREE souvenir! Something that is rare to find nowadays.

A napkin from the holiday season in 1999.

Disneyland would have different designs printed on the napkins according to the lands and seasons! Similar to how they have different cup designs for Halloween Time and Holiday Time, the napkins would be designed as well. It was also a fun treat to see a Disney character on your napkin when you sit down to eat.

Flowers were sold on Main Street.

This next secret on this list of more Disneyland secrets is another one that I have mentioned in a previous post. Flowers were sold on Main Street! Halfway down Main Street, there is a little break between the buildings. Here they sold all kinds of flowers. In fact, there was even a flower cart! Flowers were sold here from 1955-1977.

Walt Disney’s opening day speech is in morse code at the telegraph office.

At the New Orleans train station, you can hear the telegraph office sending a message. It is tapping out the speech that Walt Disney gave on opening day in 1955. This is a really cool nod to the past. Therefore, be sure to check it out on your next trip to the park.

In case you were wondering what the speech was, here is what he said:

“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America… With the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the World.”

The New Orleans Square train station used to be Frontierland station.

Another secret for this list of more Disneyland secrets is that when Disneyland was first built, there was no New Orleans Square, or Critter Country yet. There was only Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and Main Street U.S.A. As a result, the train station was in Frontierland. That is until New Orleans Square was opened in 1966.

Names on the windows on Main Street reflect people that were important to Walt Disney.

The Final Secret of Disneyland is regarding the names on the windows of Main Street. They reflect people that were important to Walt Disney. For example, Walt’s Dad Elias is on the window as a contractor. There are also lots of references to the Walt Disney film Summer Magic, which was a favorite of Walt’s.

The Window tradition continues to this day. Giving special recognition to Imagineers and others who were big contributors to the Disneyland process.

Therefore, be sure to check out some of the windows the next time you visit Disneyland!

In Conclusion

I hope that you enjoyed today’s post of 10 More Disneyland Secrets. There have been so many Disneyland secrets over the years.  These were 10 more secrets to get you started!
