Last week I posted that Disneyland is not just for kids and what to do in the park as an adult. (In case you missed it.) To keep it fair, here is a post for kids and what there is for them to do at Disneyland. I think this will be a partial list because there are so many things to do and see with kids!
Disneyland with kids. What is there to do?
Characters
To start with, I will say to make sure to meet the characters. Although, some little ones will probably not enjoy this. The size alone can intimidate the kids. They are used to seeing the characters on screen and do not realize they are full size in person. If they are ok with meeting the characters then go for it!
There are a couple of ways of seeing the characters. The first way is to see them around the park. They are all over the park at different times during the day. Mickey and friends tend to be on Main Street U.S.A. Disney princesses like to be near Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Tiana can be found in or around New Orleans Square. Therefore, you have to keep an eye out because you never know when and where you may spot them! Another way of seeing the characters is to visit Mickey Mouse at his house in Toontown or Tinkerbell and friends in Pixie Hollow. Likewise, you can meet a princess or two at Fantasy Faire in Fantasyland.
If waiting in lines to meet the characters is not your thing, then there is another way to meet the characters and enjoy some tasty food at the same time. Check out Character Dining. This is where the Disney characters come to you at your table! This is pretty awesome for kids. (I have to admit, this is pretty cool for the adults too.) You can snap a picture and have a few one on one moments with various characters. The one inside of Disneyland is at the Plaza Inn. It is called Minnie and Friends-Breakfast in the Park.
Rides
Now let’s talk about the rides at Disneyland. Children can ride almost all of the rides at Disneyland. Depending on their height of course when it comes to the roller coaster’s or the motion rides like Indiana Jones. Adults and older siblings need not worry. Disneyland offers a Rider Switch pass. This way one parent can sit with the younger children while one group rides. Then the other parent can sit with the younger ones while the next parent/group goes on the ride. (More on rider switch here.)
Fantasyland has a lot of ride options for children. Peter Pan’s Flight, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo the flying elephant and don’t forget it’s a small world. Over in Critter Country, there is a Winnie the Pooh dark ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean can be ridden by everyone in New Orleans Square. As well as, Jungle Cruise in Adventureland is a good one as well. The Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square is a family ride as well if the adults aren’t too scared to ride it. 😉
Besides the rides, Disneyland has shows to offer as well. Enchanted Tiki Room has to be my favorite show. It always has been a must-see my whole childhood. (And Adulthood.) The Royal Theatre has storytelling that comes to life. Mickey and the Magical Map is a great live stage show in Fantasyland. This one is a definite must-see. (Due to the pandemic, this show has been canceled. Check Disney’s official website here for current information.) Tomorrowland offers a Jedi Training – Trials of the Temple show that the kids can actually participate in if you register before showtime.
Souvenirs
Finally, don’t forget to shop for souvenirs. There are so many options and stores to choose from. One thing to look into (depending on your budget) is Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. If you have a little princess or a knight that would love to have some royal treatment and attire, then this is the place. Check out the packages here.
In Conclusion
This is just a partial list of what to do with kids in Disneyland. There are so many more rides and attractions in Disneyland. Not to mention California Adventure and Downtown Disney. Therefore, I will post about those places soon. Stay tuned!
