Top 10 rainy day items for Disneyland. Rain? At Disneyland? Trust me, it happens! Disneyland is located in sunny California. However, it does rain in Disneyland. This year it seems to be raining a lot! Today I would like to share some items and things I have done and things I have seen in the parks that I would recommend to you.
Top 10 Rainy Day Items for Disneyland
Being that I am from Washington State, you would think that I love the rain and do not have any issues with it. However, I do not like to have wet feet or be soaked while walking around Disneyland. The last four times I have gone to Disneyland it has rained! Usually, it was just one day during the trip and it was late afternoon when it started.
Unfortunately, during our last trip, it sprinkled one day, and then the next day it dumped buckets all day! We even received flash flood warnings on our phones!
Today I am going to share with you some things that we did, and also other recommendations based on what I saw others doing/wearing around the resort that I wished I had known about ahead of time.
Ziploc Bags
First of all, Ziplock bags are very handy when it rains. This is an item that I have also recommended before in my post 15 Best Items to Purchase Before Going to Disneyland. Because not only will it protect your valuables when you ride the wet rides, but it will also protect items when you are getting rained on.
For example, cell phones, cameras, and money. In fact, my brother was able to use his phone through the bag. As a result, he didn’t even have to take it out of the bag at all!
Non-Slip Shoes
Second, on the list of top 10 rainy day items for Disneyland is non-slip shoes. This is an important one! The Disneyland resort has concrete everywhere! It is not all exactly the same finish. Therefore, you will learn in a quick hurry which spots you want to walk on, and which ones you will want to avoid.
I love my Nike running shoes. They are so comfortable and my feet do not hurt. Even after day after day of walking at Disneyland. However, the downside to them is that they are so slippery when they are wet! It makes it very difficult to maneuver the Disneyland Resort when you have to walk very carefully.
Tip: I would recommend spraying your shoes with a water repellent to waterproof your shoes. It won’t be a 100% foolproof way to keep your shoes dry, (especially if they are breathable), however, it will help tremendously to keep your shoes dry.
Socks
Third on the list of top 10 rainy day items for Disneyland is to bring an extra pair of socks with you into the park. In addition to the extra socks, I would recommend putting said socks into a Ziploc bag to make sure they are dry when you need them.
Personally, I really do not like having wet feet and walking around the park. I don’t know about you, but having dry socks helps me a lot.
Extra Jacket/Sweater
Fourth on the list is to bring an extra jacket or sweater. Even if you have used a poncho or umbrella, you will more than likely still end up wet. Sometimes, later in the day, it would be a nice pick me up to put on a dry sweater or jacket and continue on with your day.
Locker
Fifth on the list of rainy day items for Disneyland is to rent a locker. This way you can store your extra clothing items and not carry everything around. You can access your locker as many times as you like throughout the day. Just don’t forget your items! If you happen to forget them, contact Lost and Found.
Lockers are located inside of Disneyland, California Adventure, and outside of the entrance to Disneyland and California Adventure.
Prices for the lockers depend on the size of the locker and the location. Inside of the parks, the lockers are $7 or $10. Outside the park, they are $7, $10, $11, $12, and $15.
For more information and a map of the locker locations, check out Disneyland’s official site here.
Poncho
Next on the list of top 10 rainy day items for Disneyland is ponchos. Ponchos can help keep the rain off of you. It has its benefits and downsides. I always seem to soak my arms and I feel like I can’t use my arms freely. But don’t just go off of my preference. It seems like people either like ponchos or they don’t. That being said, I will use it, because I feel the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Plus, if you have your bag under the poncho, it will help to keep your bag dry as well.
Disneyland sells ponchos at the parks. They have adult sizes and kid sizes. Prices depend on the sizes. I brought mine from a previous trip this time, therefore, I don’t know what the current prices are. I will say that the Disney ponchos, while more costly, they are nicer and thicker than the store-bought. In addition, if you encounter an issue with your poncho, talk with a Cast Member, sometimes they will replace it for you.
It never hurts to ask!
If you want to save some money, you can always purchase some ponchos ahead of time. I recommend getting and bringing some extra ones with you in case they rip. You never know.
Umbrella
Another item that would be beneficial is an umbrella. While Disneyland does sell an umbrella, they are going to cost you around $17 and change. It fits one adult or two little kids. If you decide on an umbrella and are able to, I would recommend bringing your own in.
A few words on umbrellas at the parks. First of all, you will not be permitted to have the umbrella open while on a ride. For example, it’s a small world that will not allow you to have the umbrellas open in the outdoor section of the ride. As a result of that stretch at the end of the ride, and the wait time, and going under the walkway which ends up being a double waterfall… Trust me, I have first-hand experience with this… You will get soaked and yelled at to close the umbrellas.
Another thing I would like to mention about umbrellas is to be aware of your surroundings. There are a lot of people in the park around you. Be aware and be careful when using an umbrella around so many people in close quarters. I have had near misses with my face by people just plowing by me or flinging the umbrella carelessly.
*No recommendations here to purchase one ahead of time. They are all just as much or more than the price of the Disneyland one. At least the one from Disneyland has Mickey on it. 😉
Also, if you are lucky to find one, Dollar Tree has been selling umbrellas. So if you want a small and very cheap option, that is one way to do it.
Shoe Covers
Next, on the list of rainy day items for Disneyland are shoe covers. I wish I knew these existed before our trip! I would have purchased them for myself because I can’t stand to have wet feet. Especially at Disneyland. There are puddles all over the park when it downpours and they are unavoidable! I saw some guests wearing these shoe covers. They are made from the poncho material and they go over your shoes and up to ankles. It has a pull tie so you can cinch it around your ankle to keep the water out!
Check them out in the link below.
Raincoat
Another item on the list of top 10 rainy day items for Disneyland is a raincoat. One that will repel the water from soaking in. In fact, pants would be another great option. Especially when you get on an attraction after a poncho wearer gets up. As a result of the wet poncho, the ride seats get soaked! Then, in turn, your rear ends up wet. (Pet peeve number two for me!)
Any item of apparel that repels water is a plus!
Poncho Jacket
Finally on this list for rainy day items for Disneyland is a poncho jacket. I call it a poncho jacket because it is made from the same material as a poncho, however, it has sleeves and buttons up the front making it look like a jacket.
During our last trip to Disneyland, I saw a few people wearing this waterproof jacket option. I wished I had known about this item ahead of time as well. Personally, I would prefer this option to an actual poncho because it has sleeves and buttons up. (I am claustrophobic and I prefer not to pull things over my head.)
Check out some of the options below. I will say, make sure they will fit you or your family members before purchasing this option. They do not look as forgiving as a poncho would be.
In Conclusion
I hope that this post on the Top 10 Rainy Day Items for Disneyland is helpful to you. Being at Disneyland during a rainstorm can be frustrating and disappointing. However, with the right tools and frame of mind, you can still have an enjoyable time at the Disneyland Resort!
