Today’s post may be a little different than what you were thinking. Before you get to the parks there are a lot of things that need to be planned and reserved in the months before your visit. However, today I am going to talk about other things to do before you go to help with the anticipation and lack of patience in waiting for your travel day. Such as counting down with your kids, fun Disney things to do and some new things to get before you leave for Disneyland in today’s post What to Do Months Before Visiting Disneyland.

What to Do Months Before Visiting Disneyland

Are you looking for ways to pass the time before your Disneyland vacation? Maybe you are looking for ways to build excitement for your trip or ways to countdown before your trip. Whether you are looking to entertain your kids in the months before visiting Disneyland or if you are all adults, hopefully, some of these ideas will help you out to have some fun before your Disneyland FUN!

What to do Months Before Visiting Disneyland

Movie Marathons

This is a great way to brush up on your Disney knowledge or introduce them for the first time to your kids. A lot of the attractions at Disneyland are based on some classic Disney movies. Likewise, there are other attractions that had movies based on the rides. Either way, this is a great way to get a story background in the months before visiting Disneyland.

Movies are a great way to brush up on your Disney knowledge before visiting Disneyland.

In addition to the rides, Disneyland has characters that roam the parks. The movies are a great way to learn about these characters so that first you will know who the characters are as well as knowing the characters interests to help you interact with that character.

For example, when you know the story of Winnie the Pooh, knowing how much he loves honey, you can talk with Winnie the Pooh about honey. Another example is asking Jasmine how Rahja is doing or asking Alice if she has seen the White Rabbit. These are just a few of many examples.

Here is a list of movies I recommend for the Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland Soundtracks

Not everyone may be into this one. Especially if you have never been to the parks before. However, if you are interested, listening to the ride soundtracks in the months before visiting Disneyland can be a great way to build excitement for your trip.

I have found quite a few different ones to listen to on YouTube. If you would like, I have a playlist I have put together on YouTube of various channels.

Puzzles

Next, put Disney puzzles together in the months before visiting Disneyland. This can be a fun way to pass the time and have some quality family time while building excitement for your trip. There are lots of puzzles out there nowadays of Disney characters and of Disneyland too!

Clothes

Another fun thing to do in the months before visiting Disneyland is to get a new outfit for your trip. I have seen lots of different ways of doing this. Whether it is a new shirt or shorts or getting a Disney themed shirt for your trip. Another option is to get shirts made for the entire family that matches in color with a saying or your family name on the shirts.

Get a fun t-shirt to wear around the park! This one is Mr. Potato head from Toy Story.

Shoes

Good shoes are a must before visiting Disneyland! Disneyland alone is 85 acres! Not to mention California Adventure or Downtown Disney. There is a lot of walking when you visit Disneyland. Make sure to get good shoes and break them in the months before visiting Disneyland.

Believe it or not, I enjoy getting new sneakers before I get to the parks. I think it is more of an adult thing than a kid thing. However, you can get Disney themed shoes for the kids. Something we never had when I was little.

Countdown

Wating can be so hard! I am not speaking from experience… Yeah right! This is the hardest part for me. Even as an adult! I get so excited to go that I am constantly thinking “is it time yet???”

A countdown calendar can be a great way to get through the days or months before visiting Disneyland. There are a few different ways to do it too!

If you are crafty, I found a site with a few different options. While I share the same first name with this blogger, it is not me. However, I really liked her ideas! One way is the classic paper chains. I don’t know if you remember making these in school when you were younger, but these are fun to make with the kids and a great way your kids can be involved in counting down by taking off one chain each day.

Another idea is to get the Mickey paint samples from the hardware store. Write on each one the number of days till your vacation and have them on your fridge. This is a fun way to count down and add some Disney decor at the same time!

Watch or look at previous trip videos/photos

If you have been to Disneyland before and took video and/or photos, this is a great way to reminisce and build excitement for the next trip in the months before visiting Disneyland.

Watch Youtube videos on Disneyland

Finally, watching Youtube videos on Disneyland is a great way to spend the months before visiting Disneyland! Not only does this build excitement but it also helps you to plan where to eat, what to ride and what treats you will want to make sure and get!

Here are some of my favorite Youtubers:

First is FreshBaked. They usually visit Disneyland at least every Saturday and then post 20 min episodes every day. It is a small group that walks the park, rides some rides, does character meet and greets, gets food and treats. They are relaxed and have fun! It is a great channel to watch with the whole family.

Next, Magic Journeys is a foodie couple that shows you different restaurants, treats, and drinks around the Disneyland Resort. They have fun while showing and describing what the food is. Magic Journey’s is also family-friendly.

Finally, Mr. Cheesy Pop is a fun channel to watch! Max is cheesy and loves to visit the park and show new food options and treats around the Disneyland Resort. He has fun, laughs and is cheesy as well as family-friendly! He has lots of other types of videos on his channel besides the Disneyland ones.

I have been following Justin for over 5 years! He is so funny! Justin will visit all the Disney Parks all over the World from time to time. This includes Disneyland of course! He is family-friendly so you don’t have to worry about the content. Justin also will travel Route 66 and other places too. He makes it fun and entertaining to watch. But be careful, you may get the travel bug! He is that good at making the different locations fun and entertaining that you will want to visit!

In Conclusion

With all the different ways to spend the months before visiting Disneyland, I hope that this list gives you some great ideas to try before your next trip to Disneyland!

Melisa has had a love for Disneyland that started at a very young age. Her family traveled to Disneyland every year or two when she was growing up. As she got older, she began to read anything she could get her hands on regarding Disneyland. If you ask her anything about Disneyland, she is always willing to share her knowledge. As a former Manager of a video store, she has a wealth of knowledge about movies as well. In addition to these experiences, she also loves to take landscape photography, do crafting, bake cakes for her nieces and nephews. But most of all, she enjoys reading the Bible.
